Direct conversion of furfural to levulinic acid/ester was achieved in dimethoxymethane/methanol via only acid catalysis. The polymerization between levulinic acid/ester with dimethoxymethane was the key reason for diminishing the production of levulinic acid/ester. Methanol as the co-solvent/reactant alleviated the polymerization.

Banana peel-derived porous carbon (BPPC) was prepared from banana peels. BPPC was used for methyl orange wastewater and subsequently carbonized to produce N,S-doped BPPC exhibited potential application for fuel cell.

Metal@carbon core@shell nanocomposites exhibit apparent electrocatalytic activity towards a number of important reactions. This is primarily ascribed to charge transfer from the encapsulated metals to the carbon shells. Yet the mechanistic origin remains to be fully explored.
